Social media is used by individuals to document aspects of their day-to-day lives - so sharing their videos of their holidays that no one else wants to see. Essentially, it is a breeding ground for vanity. 


There is a degree to which there is a cross-over between personal and professional - in which people use their social media accounts to further their own business interests. This might be an existing celebrity, though increasingly, the lines are becoming blurred- with celebrity bloggers, vloggers, youtube  



- they have sponsorships - sponsored by a brand  to promote their brand 
- Ad revenue: approximately $1K per million views 
- partener programe: youtube + content creators have a partner ship 
Merchandise - items branded on Yt and sold 
Affiliates - to earn money Yt becomes affiliates
